Today is Ash Wednesday and it marks the start of Lent in the Christian calendar. As a part of the celebration here in the Philippines, Eat’s a Small World was invited by McDonald’s to taste their newest limited time offer: the McDonald’s Fish & Fries.
Since the new McDonald’s Fish & Fries is inspired by the classic British favorite “Fish and Chips,” the venue was designed in accordance to the English pop culture.
Several cool display items can be found: fresh roses (the national flower of England), the famous red telephone booth / box, the London Underground logo and the London Eye.
Traditional biscuits were served as well.
The golden batter was super crispy as expected. The fish meat inside was super tender and tasty. And we love it with fries, of course! Although for those who want to get a heavier meal, you can also order the McDonald’s Fish & Rice instead.
This comes with your choice of dip—Sweet & Sour, Tangy Thousand Island (which reminds me of the Burger McDo sauce), or Creamy Tartar Sauce.
The tartar sauce (which was made with mayonnaise and pickles) was undeniably the most perfect condiment for the fried fish. It was amazing especially when we were able to taste the hint of the pickle relish, very reminiscent to their original cheeseburger condiment.
We definitely love it and we recommend it as well to those who are removing red meat on their diet (especially beef and pork).
Indeed, a quick and affordable seafood treat perfect for this season!
Congratulations McDonald’s Philippines and EON for this successful product launch!
McDonald’s Fish & Fries and Fish & Rice is available at any McDonald’s restaurant nationwide starting March 1, 2017. Prices start at PHP 143.00 for ala carte orders.
